Newly-elected Zanu-PF Harare Zone 6 District Coordinating Committee (DCC) chairman Cde Emmanuel Mahachi says he is committed to transforming the livelihoods of youths through empowerment programmes.

In an interview with The Herald, Cde Mahachi said he will assist in allocating vending sites and source funding to capacitate youths as a source of employment creation.

“My vision in Zone 6 is for youths to be empowered because if you look at three quarters of the youths in the zone, they are not employed and have nothing useful they are doing, save for drug abuse and loitering around,” he said.

Cde Mahachi said he was going to engage the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation to educate youths on empowerment programmes and entrepreneurial activities.

“I am trying to engage the Ministry of Youth so that our youths are educated on different things like starting up businesses and other business activities so that when we are funding projects, people know exactly what they want to do, their strengths and weaknesses for example if one wants to rear chickens or do soap production, they know exactly what needs to be done,” he said.

“So, firstly we want to educate our youths so that they know how to run their projects, then after that we source funds from the youth empowerment banks.”

Cde Mahachi urged the youths to heed President Mnangagwa’s call for peace to prevail in the country instead of violence and disharmony as it will not take the country forward.

“I want to urge the youths to listen to President Mnangagwa that no to violence and we should promote peace, even if we engage in any demonstrations, let’s just be peaceful,” he said.
