LATEST: Head, teachers blow $150 000 in allowances

Tawanda Mangoma in Chiredzi

GOVERNMENT auditors have unearthed abuse of funds at Chiredzi Christian College where the school head connived with teachers and the School Development Committee to blow $150 000 in allowances, The Herald has learnt.

The money was dished out as incentives to teachers.

According to the findings of an audit team dispatched to the lowveld school, former acting school head Mr Lovemore Gunguo and an official at the school, identified as Mr Victor Zvada, pocketed $34 799 and $23 294 in allowances, respectively.

SDCs members were also implicated as having pocketed $38 000 in sitting allowances between 2014 and 2016.

SDC Chairman Mr Amious Makamure got $7 735, senior teacher Mr Archem Muziro $12 430 while the unnamed SDC vice chairman received $6 025.

The report further noted that $2000 was paid to Mr Gunguo as appreciation for the completion of construction of a school durawall.

Only $150 000, what’s the big deal? Mugabe and particularly Grace blow millions every time they sojourn outside the country!

The article should clearly state that the head continued to give himself and teachers incentives after they were banned by the government instead of presenting it as a complex fraud case.

I guess this is a private school. There are so many government schools doing the same. Why are they not investigated. Girls High School is charging $300 per term levy whilst other government schools $185. Isnt this day light robbery? Recently there was an outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea. Did you Ministry of Education investigate? The teachers at Girls High School continue to beat children with PALMS IMPAMHA. Is that OK. The teachers don’t even alert parents if they see a sick student. One student was always sleeping in class and the class teacher never even bothered to alert the headmistress or parents until the student died. Come one Ministry of Education! Ma teachers anorova vana kunge vakadzi vavo mudzimba. Ma teachers anopedzera shungu kuvana. Tinyarewo. Sika sika nezvema private schools, ko zvepama government schools mazvipedza?
