Zimpapers scored big at the Megafest Awards in Harare on Wednesday after chief executive Mr Pikirayi Deketeke and flagship The Herald were rewarded for excellence.

Mr Deketeke bagged the professional of the year gong while The Herald was the runner-up in the most consistent organisation category.

Chronicle reporter Yoliswa Dube won the Print Media Personality of the Year award while Star FM duo of Kudzai Violet Gwara “KVG” and Phatisani Sibanda were runners-up for the Media Personality Award in the Broadcasting Section.

Star FM was runner-up in the best marketed organisation category.

Zimpapers public relations and corporate affairs manager Ms Beatrice Tonhodzayi yesterday said the awards were a testimony that advertisers and readers continue to cherish the company’s print and broadcast products.

“The fact that we continue to win awards and get recognition from different organisations show that we are the best at what we do. It shows that the business Zimpapers does remains relevant and we pride ourselves of being the content hub churning out quality content on different platforms,” she said.

“The award is testament to all the hard work put by our chief executive, Mr Dekekete, and my fellow workers from top to bottom who have over the years worked hard to ensure there is growth in the organisation,” she said.

Ms Tonhodzayi, who dedicated the awards to Team Zimpapers, said they should continue to work as a team to ensure that the company continues to produce results that not only please shareholders, but customers and advertisers.

She said the fact that The Herald continues to scoop major accolades was testimony that it was the market leader, thanking the paper’s loyal readers and advertisers for supporting the publication.

“There is no successful organisation which runs without a good leader. The recognition of Mr Deketeke shows that he is a great leader, who also leads a great team which helps him to achieve great things,” she said.

“There is also no doubt that our radio station Star FM continues to be the leading radio station evidenced by its recognition and that of its personalities. To the personalities who were awarded in both print and broadcasting sections I say continue working hard.”

Other notable winners at the awards include Steward Bank, CBZ, ZETDC, Baines Intercare, Nash Paints, Africa University, Harare Institute of Technology, Mutasa Rural District Council, Mutare City Council, Fawcett Security, Willtown Group and Champions Insurance among others.
