ZETDC explains power outage

Herald Reporter
THE nationwide power outage experienced yesterday at around 10.26am was caused by a fault on the main grid line linking Kariba and Harare which then tripped out the rest of the grid.

The problem was sorted out and those areas not under load shedding had their power restored by lunchtime by the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company, Zesa’s distribution arm.

In a statement apologising for the disruption, ZETDC said the nationwide outage was “due to an abrupt system disturbance on the Alaska-Warren high voltage transmission powerlines linking Kariba and Harare”.

ZETDC used the same statement to warn that the intensified load shedding announced on Saturday as a result of depressed generation at both Kariba South and Hwange Thermal stations still applied and that all users should use as little power as possible to have as much as possible shared.
