Zanu-PF legislators in Harare have stepped up the implementation of Zim-Asset projects through housing and income-generating projects in their constituencies.

The projects are in line with the target of creating 2,2 million jobs by 2018 and ensuring provision of sustainable infrastructure.

In Epworth constituency, Member of Parliament Cde Zalera Makari said they had availed 3 000 housing stands which would benefit people in the area.

“Last week we embarked on a programme to distribute 3 000 stands with title deeds to the people in the constituency,” he said. “The programme was officially launched by the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Cde Christopher Chingosho.”

Cde Makari said they wanted to ensure that people in the area owned properties and were protected from land barons.

She said they were also working on a water reticulation system in the area and that by 2018 Epworth should be accorded town status.

Zanu-PF legislator for Mt Pleasant Cde Jaison Pasade has also embarked on a programme to pay examination fees for more than 300 school-leavers who failed to make it on their first “O” Level sitting.

In an interview, Cde Pasade said the idea was to avoid the students going idle so that they would not be involved in crime and other vices.

“When I started this programme in January this year, I discovered that most of the party youths had failed their ‘O’ Levels and some couldn’t rewrite because of (financial) difficulties,” he said.

“We are all aware that the country has been under sanctions for a decade and this resulted in every Zimbabwean facing hardships.”

Harare South legislator Cde Shadreck Mashayamombe said they had several projects and recently acquired 10 welding machines, sewing machines and brick moulding machines to create employment for the youths and women.

“The youths are manufacturing door frames, window frames and burglar bars and selling them to local people since several people are building houses in the area, while the women are sewing clothes and school uniforms,” he said.

Cde Mashayamombe said the construction of the multi-million- dollar Mbudzi People’s Market was also set to benefit people in his constituency by creating employment.

Harare East legislator Cde Terence Mukupe said they had embarked on a housing project valued at $20 million in Mabvuku which would benefit 1 400 people and provide them with decent accommodation.

“We have a contractor in place to develop the place and we have put funding together for the project,” he said. “We are also sinking two boreholes every week in Caledonia and rehabilitating Arcturus Road.”

Zanu-PF MP for Highfield West Cde Psychology Maziwisa said he had implemented a number of initiatives in line with Government’s thrust of economic empowerment and development.

Some of the initiatives include facilitating the reduction of rentals for hundreds of families, paying school fees for disadvantaged children and availing an open space for use as a home industry.

“Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Cde Saviour Kasukuwere will soon avail residential stands to the people of Highfield West,” he said.
