Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Ambassador Frederick Shava, is in South Africa to attend a key SADC meeting before proceeding to Senegal for a China-Africa summit.

In a statement, the Ministry said Ambassador Shava would attend the extraordinary meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the organ troika which includes South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia plus Personnel Contributing Countries (PCCs), Angola, DRC, Lesotho, Malawi and Tanzania.

“The meeting will consider, among others, the progress made by the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) as well as the draft framework for supporting the Republic of Mozambique in addressing terrorism,” said the ministry.

“Zimbabwe’s participation at the meeting will help to keep the country informed on current operations of SAMIM and the status of its personnel.”

Minister Shava will then visit Dakar, Senegal to attend the 8th Ministerial Conference on the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) scheduled for November 29 and 30.

“The Conference will be held under the theme: Deepening the Sino-African Partnership and Promoting Sustainable Development to build a China-Africa Community with a shared Future in the New Era,” said the ministry.

“The meeting will evaluate the implementation of the follow-up actions of the 2018 Beijing summit and the situation of China-Africa solidarity against Covid-19, and plan the direction of China-Africa relations in the next three years.

“FOCAC has provided a platform for collective consultations and cooperation between China and Africa since its inception in 2006.

“It promotes dialogue between Africa and China that facilitates the development of a common political and economic agenda intended to advance constructive South-South cooperation.”
