AN Epworth man who terrorised Southerton homes has been jailed 50 years after being convicted of attempted murder, rape, unlawful entry and theft.
Bainos Isaac (36) pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of rape, attempted murder and unlawful entry but was convicted after a full trial.
In passing sentence, Harare magistrate Mr Simon Kachambwa said the offences were well-planned. “The cases of unlawful entry, attempted murder and rape attract a long custodial sentence to deter those of like mind,” he said. Although Isaac was treated as a first offender, he was sentenced to 62 years in prison before Mr Kachambwa set aside 12 years for five years on condition that he does not commit similar crimes.
Prosecutor Mr Allan Goche proved that on March 3, 2012 at 8.10pm, Isaac removed window panes at a house in Southerton before entering through the bedroom.

He stole valuables worth US$56.
During the same night he went to another house in Southerton and broke door panels to gain entry. The owner of the house noticed him and Isaac jumped over a pre-cast wall, fleeing from the premises.

The court also heard that on March 4 at around 12.15am, Isaac attacked Mr Thomas Makumbunde with a knife as he entered his house in Southerton, from a church service.

Isaac also raped a woman at a house he had raided in the same location in July the same year. In November the same year, Isaac broke into another house in the same location and raped a heavily pregnant woman he found asleep, at knife point.
