Kariba’s new radio station, Nyami Nyami FM, made history in the resort town last Saturday as it hosted a massive lake side bash, which attracted thousands of people.

The bash reportedly attracted people from nearby towns like Karoi, as well as others from across the border in Zambia. The free event was held at Lake Harvest Harbour. Masses of people could be spotted at the venue as early as 2pm. Entertainment started early, with local mbira bands, deejays and artistes warming up the stage.

Star FM presenter Tilda Moyo-Karizamimba and Gringo were received with wild cheers when they took to the stage, while Zim dancehall chanter Mac Man sent the crowd wild and had to be called back on stage twice as the people wanted more. As dusk approached, more numbers thronged the venue and the vibe got more ‘‘crazy’’ as Harare based wheel spinners MC Stansplash and Blizzy G, Game Recognise Game duo Ash Styles and Nivek took over the stage.

The quartet entertained the crowd for close to four hours, playing a mixed bag set that was well received. Kariba top wheel-spinner DJ Free B and various Nyami Nyami FM presenters and artistes also kept the crowd alive till the wee hours. Nyami Nyami FM station manager, Maxton Kanhema, said: “Thank you very much Zimbabwe, thank you to our partners and a very big thank you to Kariba. Without their support we could have not done it.”

A lot of activities like soccer and jumping castles for children were also lined up.
