My step-brother sexually abuses me, woman tells court

A Harare woman told the Civil Court on Monday that she is living in fear of being sexually abused by her step-brother who sometimes refers to her as his wife.

Ellen Mudyiwa claims her step-brother Martin was in the habit of bursting into her bedroom while she was naked.

Mudyiwa was seeking a protection order against Martin, whom she said was also in the habit of verbally and physically abusing her over petty issues.

“My step-brother and I stay together at our late father’s house and he now wants to turn me into his wife,” said Mudyiwa.

She told magistrate Mrs Babra Masinire that she was now living in fear because Martin was in the habit of breaking into her bedroom.

“I do not even know what is happening to him because each time I try to reprimand him from invading my bedroom he starts claiming that I am his wife,” she said. Martin refuted the allegations.

“She is just fabricating stories against me in order to please the court to grant her a protection order. “I am not doing any of the things she has just alleged,” said Martin.

He told the court that they were always quarrelling with Mudyiwa because she wanted to evict him from their father’s house.

“The issue is about the house, not sexual or physical abuse,” said Martin.

“My step-sister wants to evict me from our late father’s house, forgetting that we have the same rights of staying there.”

Mrs Masinire granted the protection order in Mudyiwa’s favour which barred Martin from physically, sexually or verbally abusing her.

She ordered the two to keep peace at all times.
