Midlands State University (MSU), the country’s representatives at the 2017 Enactus World Cup, made it to the semi-finals of the competition dedicated to inspiring students to take entrepreneurial action to improve the lives of others. The team came second in the semi-final league, with India proceeding to the final league, and missed out on the $50 000 prize money. India, which eliminated MSU, went on to win this year’s edition of the Enactus competition.

The Enactus World Cup is an annual event featuring the best social innovation projects created by top university and college teams from 36 countries. At least 1 700 campuses and 72 000 students from around the globe participate in the competition. MSU director of information and public relations Mrs Mirirai Mawere said reaching the semi-finals showed university was one of the best in the world.

“Getting to the semi-finals in that stiff competition was a milestone achievement for our team,” she said. “It has put our institution and our country on the world map.”

At the Enactus World Cup, the National Champion team from each of the 36 participating countries had the opportunity to showcase the entrepreneurial action they took to raise the standard of living for others.

Top global business executives serve as judges, evaluating the teams’ performance and ultimately selecting one as the Enactus World Champion. Enactus World Cup also celebrates the diversity of culture, abundance of ideas and synergy of cross-generational leadership in action. In the final league, India met Canada, Puerto Rico and Kyrgyzstan, which were all vying for the prestigious cup.

The 2017 Enactus World Cup winner was a team from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies from Enactus India. One of the Enactus Global sponsors, Ford, gave the winners $50 000 to use on their projects and to split between the winning team and their Enactus Country.
