The Government through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has built a mother’s shelter at Swuswe Clinic in Mudzi district, bringing relief to expecting mothers.

Expecting mothers had been travelling to either Kotwa hospital or Mutoko centre for safe deliveries.

Some who could not afford the expenses associated with travelling would risk and give birth at home, a scenario which had to expose both the mother and child to health challenges which are now being mitigated through a mothers shelter where one could be quickly attended.

The establishment of this building dovetails with the Second Republic’s agenda of bringing critical services closer to the people, leaving no one and no place behind.

Mudzi West constituency legislator (ZANU PF) Cde Magna Mudyiwa welcomed the development

“Firstly I want to thank President Mnangagwa for making sure Constituency Development Funds are availed so that we can develop our constituencies. So today we are at Swuswe clinic where we built a mothers shelter .

“As you may know, labour pains can be felt at any time once one is due so some of the women would then give birth at home while others would have to travel for a long distant to the next clinic where there is a mothers shelter.

“Now after realising that a lot of expecting mothers were giving birth at home due to this challenge, we decided to built this shelter here. A lot of women are being assisted here now, it is an advantage in that even if they have pains, they can be assisted quickly. This is saving lives of many,” she said.

An expecting mother Ms Ulita Garikai who was housed in the mother’s shelter with others said Government has done a commendable job.

“I feel safe being here than at home. A lot of women were giving birth at home because of the distance to the next clinic where there is a mother’s shelter. This was not safe for us women at all.

“Now we have one here, we are grateful to the Government for prioritising our health.”

A Swuswe resident Amai Chigumira said now there is no need for women to give birth at home.

“We are happy because the challenge we have been facing as women is over. This clinic is serving a lot of people and having a mothers shelter is commendable. We are happy and we thank our Government for doing this for us,” she said.

Amai Mandimutsa said such funds should always be availed for development to be realised in areas like Swuswe.

She thanked Government and their MP for the mothers shelter.

“The MP also made sure the clinic has portable water for the people. Now we have a mother’s shelter.

“This is a welcome development and as women we are happy.”
