Motorists from Mashonaland Central province have commended the on-going roads rehabilitation being conducted by Government.

Potholes on the province’s major roads are being patched and repaired.

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Captain Christopher Magomo (Retired) said he has embarked on an extensive road maintenance which has seen major roads in the province getting repaired.

“We have since repaired potholes along Harare-Bindura highway. Mt Darwin road has been dealt with and Mazowe-Mvurwi road has also been attended to with Guruve-Mbire road being included on the completed roads list

“We have now embarked on the Glendale-Chiweshe highway while the Centenary and Ndodahondo roads are next. The Nyakasikana road is almost complete,” said Minister Magomo.

As part of the devolution agenda, Minister Magomo said he is making sure all relevant stakeholders are brought together to improve the road network.

Bindura businessman Mr John Yakiti said the rehabilitation comes just on time before the full commencement of rains.

“I recently travelled on the Mazowe-Mvurwi-Mbire road and I can truthfully testify that the road has seen some facelifting which is quite exciting for us motorists. The good thing is that this has been done before the rains, usually it is during the rainy season that we experience the dangers of potholes claiming lives through accidents.”

Mvurwi-based transport operator Mr Benedict Chagumuka said the new state of the roads will contribute to the ease-of-doing business in the coming tobacco selling season.

“As transporters, we commend this move as it makes the cost of doing business cheaper. We transport tobacco from various smallholder farmers and at times, the costs incurred reduce profitability,” said Mr Chagumuka.

Mt Darwin resident Mr James Seremwe said the stance taken by the province is commendable in complementing efforts by the Zimbabwa National Roads Authority (Zinara).

“We are happy with the hands-on stance by Minister Magomo. Using the little available resources, he has managed to at least make our roads better. We are sure by the time central government avails funds for these roads, great work will be witnessed here on Mashonaland Central roads. We are happy,” said Mr Seremwe.
