Lieutenant Colonel Edson Sithole, who died in Bulawayo on Saturday last week, was declared a liberation war hero and buried at Nkulumane Provincial Heroes Acre on Wednesday .

He was 61.

He passed away at the United Bulawayo Hospitals after a short illness.

In a statement released yesterday, Director Army Public Relations Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore described the late career soldier as a loyal and dedicated senior officer.

“The late senior officer was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army on March 25, 1980 as a private and rose through the ranks to the rank of lieutenant colonel,” he said.

“He served in various units, among them 21 Infantry Battalion, 11 Infantry Battalion and Army Headquarters.”

Lt-Col Sithole is survived by his wife and three children.
