The vaccination roll out for COVID 19 started this morning in the Midlands province with front line workers getting  vaccinated ahead of everyone else.

Gweru City Council health worker, Sister Theresa Chete who survived COVID 19 was the first to take the jab while several other health practitioners were also vaccinated.

In an interview after taking the vaccine, Sister Chete said it felt good for her to lead by example as the country battles to control the virus.
She urged members of the public to take the roll out programme seriously so as to curb the virus.

“It is a decision that I took as I know what it means to be a COVID 19 patient through my previous experience. Though I was asymptomatic, I suffered stigma particularly at the work place and when the chance to get the vaccine came, I had no option but to take it up since I work with patients every day of my life,” she said.

Sister Chete said there was no need for the general public to be afraid of being vaccinated owing to some ill-informed reports to on social media about the vaccines.

“I must say there is absolutely no reason to be afraid to take this vaccine especially for us as frontline workers. I want to urge other health workers, the police officers and even you journalists to take this vaccine as it is meant to help us,” she said.

Another flontline worker, Mr David  Choto who also received the jab said people should disregard false information  being peddled by nay sayers on socal media suggesting the vaccine had side effects

“I have seen a number of comments on social media against the use of the vaccine. The truth is, there is no Government which can enter into an agreement with another government to take a drug that is a danger to its citizens. Its time we wake up and embrace the Government’s initiative in curbing the spread of this pandemic,” he said.

The Midlands province received a total of 13800 doses of the vaccine meant to be administered mainly to the frontline workers with the rest of the people in the province expected to get their doses as the country gets more.
