THE Mashonaland West provincial leadership has been urged to invest in liberation war museums to increase tourist attractions in the province.

The call was made by Zimbabwe Investment Authority head of operations Mr Sichoni Takoleza during the Mashonaland West is Open for Business investment conference held recently.

He said the liberation war museum could boost tourist arrivals.

“I believe that there is a big investment that could develop around the liberation struggle, sharing the history of the struggle.

“The province might establish a museum that will have all the documented events of the liberation struggle fought in the province.”

He said the sites could be built around the Rwandese Genocide Memorials.

“The site will be a centre of attraction for international tourists and scholars.

“We need to have more activity around our areas; we need to expose these areas,” he added.

“In Rwanda they had genocide sometime back, but what they have since done is they have created what they call a Genocide Museum.”

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira recently said Government would enshrine many liberation war sites dotted around Zimbabwe.

Government is currently finalising efforts to establish a shrine where the 1966 Chinhoyi battle took place.
