THE Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services has launched a fitness and wellness programme to positively impact the well-being and lives of people in the ICT community.

In a speech read on her behalf by her Deputy Dingumuzi Phuti on the launch of the programme yesterday, Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Dr Tatenda Mavetera said regular physical exercise has been proven to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, boosts moods, enhance productivity and improve the overall quality of life.

Minister Mavetera said the goal was to inspire and motivate Zimbabweans to embrace fitness as an integral part of their daily routines.

“We believe that when individuals prioritise their well-being they become more resilient, experience greater work, and life balance, and contribute more effectively to their families, workplaces, and communities,” she said.

“I am advised that there will be weekly fitness and wellness activities in the workplace. Each one of us should thus participate in the wellness day activities every Wednesday at the workplace.

“The fitness and wellness programme will offer a diverse range of activities that cater to different interests and fitness levels.

“There will be emphasis on catering to the needs and goals of every participant”.

Minister Mavetera said by collaborating with external experts, trainers and professionals in the field, that is Sports Recreation Commission and Zimbabwe Aerobics and Fitness Association, they wanted to ensure that the programme was delivered with the highest standard of guidance and expertise.

“It is with immense pride and anticipation that we initiate the Fitness and Wellness programme at our workplace,” she said.

“I extend my deepest gratitude to the individuals and teams who have worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality. I call upon every one of you to embrace this opportunity, commit to your well-being and become ambassadors of wellness among your peers and loved ones.

“Together let us build a healthier, more vibrant community, a community that takes care of its physical and mental health and thrives in all aspects of life.

“It is also important to find time to rest for if you don’t choose a day to rest your body will choose the day for you at times with complications.”
