Security details and fire-fighters were deployed yesterday at Zuva Petroleum Service Station in the capital after reports of suspected fuel leakage of underground storage facility, the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation reported last night. Police details and fire-fighters were deployed at the service station along Simon Muzenda Street and Samora Machel Avenue.Police chief spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, told ZBC that police were deployed to the service station to allow uninterrupted investigations.

“Police have deployed and cordoned off the area to ensure smooth investigation,” said Snr Ass Comm Charamba.

She said the teams would meet to review progress. No comment could be obtained from Zuva Petroleum management. This came as business had been closed at Club Chambers and nearby buildings in central Harare.

Fire tenders and police details had been stationed along Nelson Mandela Avenue and Third Street while examination of the area was going on to determine where the suspected fuel leakage was coming from and whether it posed any danger to human life and property.

Unconfirmed reports said an explosion took place in the basement of Harare Club Chambers on Wednesday raising claims through social media that the place had been bombed. — ZBC/Herald Reporter.
