FOURTEEN EasiPark workers were yesterday suspended for questioning why management had unilaterally removed the commission they were getting above their pay.

Their employment contracts award them 10 percent commission for every dollar cashed.

Management scrapped the 10 percent commission without engaging the workers, sparking a dispute.

“During the period of suspension, you are not allowed to visit EasiPark Harare premises or engage workers on this issue or interfere in any way with this investigation,” read the suspension letters.

“A breach of the above condition will be regarded as an act of misconduct. This suspension will remain in full force until the conclusion of the investigations or as advised.”

A workers’ committee member who preferred anonymity said EasiPark operations manager Mr Clifpon Mapfumo tried to address workers on Wednesday.

The workers told him to get a person who could answer their concerns satisfactorily.

Human Resources manager Mr Charles Chigiji addressed the workers and told them they were free to take legal action.

“Go to court and present all your issues properly and not ask me here. I know if you go to court, you will win the court case but we will still take measures to pin you down,” said Mr Chigiji.

Workers suspect the company is trying to cut down on the number of workers through frustration. “Workers have no uniform and they are only issued with a hand-held gadget for issuing receipts to motorists,” said one of the workers.

Mr Chigiji yesterday declined to comment when contacted by The Herald.
