Government has been commended for taking care of traditional leaders in Mhondoro-Ngezi District.

In her brief to Local Government, National Housing and Public Works Minister July Moyo before the installation of Chief Murambwa in Mhondoro-Ngezi last week, district administrator Mrs Fortunate Muzulu said all the traditional leaders in the area were receiving their allowances which were also up to date.

“The welfare of chiefs in this area is commendable. Chief Mushava and Nyika both received vehicles and their allowances are up to date,” she said.

“Only our newly installed Chief Murambwa is yet to receive his allowances since inception in February, with logistics being sorted out.”

She said the selection process for the fourth chief was underway following the death of Chief Benhura recently.

Mrs Muzulu said even local headmen were being well catered for ,with the use of plastic money having also aided as they are now accessing their allowances easily.

“The district has 218 headmen (and) they are all receiving their allowances smoothly through Ecocash and their March and April allowances are currently being processed,” she said.

Mrs Muzulu also informed Minister Moyo that there was a proposed plan to create a fifth chieftainship in the district.

“There is a proposal that the Ingezi chieftainship be incorporated into the district. At the moment it’s under Chegutu, but the challenge we are facing is that the area, which they are claiming is theirs is still under resettlement and the process of putting it under traditional leadership has not been effected,” she said.

Mrs Muzulu said the other challenge was that the local leadership were promised that they would share the new area of jurisdiction.
