The Constitutional Court has dismissed an application by MDC-T leader Mr  Morgan Tsvangirai to nullify the result of the 31 July presidential election and has declared President Mugabe as the legitimate winner of the poll.

Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku described the election as free, fair  and credible and a reflection of the will of the people.

The ruling paves the way for President Mugabe’s inauguration on Thursday and comes after Sadc, the African Union and all observer teams endorsed the election as free and fair.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Court has also dismissed two applications by Mr Tsvangirai in which he sought the release of election material. Justice Chinembiri Bhunu ruled that the lawyers representing Mr Tsvangirai were in contempt of court and asked the Attorney-General to take appropriate action in terms of the law.

Mr Tsvangirai was being represented by Advocate Lewis Uriri, Mr Alec Muchadehama and Mr T Mutangi. President Mugabe thumped Mr Tsvangirai in the 31 July harmonised election, garnering 61,09 percent of the valid votes cast against the MDC-T leader’s 34,94 percent.
