Six candidates intending to represent Zanu PF in the Gokwe-Kabuyuni Constituency by-election have successfully submitted their curriculum vitae, setting the stage for the revolutionary party’s primary election tomorrow.

The by-election will be held to fill in the vacancy left following the death of Zanu PF’s Cde Leonard Chikomba in a car accident in May.

Zanu PF has deployed senior party members to manage the polls and ballot boxes are already in place.

Cde Lillian Zemura, the party’s deputy National Commissar, will be supervising the team.

She would be assisted by a number of Central Committee members in the Midlands Province, as well as others coming from other provinces.

Some of the candidates that have submitted their CVs, which sailed through the vetting exercise, are Cdes Lyton Ncube, Manager Munkuli, Spencer Tshuma and Tapera Nyoni.

Zanu PF National Political Commissar, Cde Mike Bimha, yesterday said all was set for the successful holding of the primary election.

“As you are aware, there is a vacancy in Gokwe-Kabuyuni as a result of the death of a Zanu PF legislator, the late Cde Leonard Chikomba,” he said.

“A number of candidates have come forward who want to be considered for the by-elections. Among the contenders, two have withdrawn as is always the case when the race hots up.

“We had more than six candidates who had indicated their willingness to be considered, one or two have been disqualified for not meeting the criteria and we now have four candidates who now have to square up for primary elections.

“Once we are through with the primary elections, will speed up our campaign for the successful candidate.”

Cde Chikomba died in a car crash in May, 20km away from his home, along the Gokwe-Chitekete Road while coming from a Zanu PF Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting in Gweru.
