Zuma team seeks update on Constitution

parties in the inclusive Government for an update on the Constitution-making process and election roadmap.
The team, led by Mr Charles Nqakula, on Monday met MDC leader Professor Welshman Ncube and one of his negotiators, Mrs Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga.

Mr Nqakula and his team are expected to meet Zanu-PF and MDC-T representatives together tomorrow.
Zanu-PF negotiator Cde Patrick Chinamasa confirmed tomorrow’s meeting.
“I understand that they (facilitation team) are here. They met with MDC yesterday and they requested to meet us together with MDC-T bilaterally.

“They have asked to meet us on Thursday and we have confirmed that we will be available.”
Cde Chinamasa said he was not aware of the facilitation team’s agenda.

Mrs Misihairabwi-Mushonga said the team wanted to meet principals to the Global Political Agreement.
She said she accompanied her principal Professor Welshman Ncube to the meeting and briefed the facilitation team on the Constitution-making process.

“They wanted an update on the Constitution-making process and election roadmap.
“We told them that we are going to the Second All Stakeholders’ Conference and that it was important to set a new election roadmap,” she said.

Mrs Misihairabwi-Mushonga said President Zuma met President Mugabe last month during the United Nations General Assembly in New York and his team now wanted to meet other principals.

On the election roadmap, Mrs Misihairabwi-Mushonga said they wanted the facilitator to deal with the so-called reforms the MDC formations are agitating for.
“The issue of political violence is one such issue that we want to be addressed before we go to elections.”

The facilitation team last visited the country in June where they were told to wait for an invitation from the Government of Zimbabwe.
The Sadc Summit in Angola charged President Zuma to get a hands-on approach to the facilitation.

The summit resolved that the facilitator’s reliance on proxies had wrought confusion along with procedural irregularities manifest in the ill-fated Livingstone Troika Summit.

The regional body also urged the parties to the GPA to commit themselves to agreed issues, including concluding the Constitution-making process.
