Zanu-PF is prepared to work with all people in Harare despite losing the bulk of the seats in the city to MDC-T in the just ended harmonised elections, the party’s Harare provincial chairman Cde Amos Midzi has said. Officially handing over a borehole that was erected by the Zanu-PF candidate for Warren Park Cde Abicia Ushewokunze at Francis Flats in Belvedere yesterday, Cde Midzi said President Mugabe was a father figure for the nation who would not leave part of his family to die of hunger.

“As Zanu-PF, we will not select who benefits from the indigenisation and empowerment programmes because we are all Zimbabweans,” he said. “We won’t ask you whether you support MDC-T, Zapu, or Mavambo as long as young are Zimbabwean.”

Cde Midzi took the opportunity to congratulate the country for overwhelmingly voting for President Mugabe, saying Zanu-PF’s victory gave the party an opportunity to complete its people centred programmes.

“I don’t understand this mentality of voting for these potholes and water shortages again,” he said. “Why reward failure in Bulawayo and Harare?”
Cde Midzi said a victory for Zanu-PF was a victory for the entire nation as it meant the country would proceed with its indigenisation and empowerment programmes.

Cde Ushewokunze said he would continue with the projects he started as they were meant to help the people and not for canvassing support for the elections.
“I will not stop now that I have not received enough votes to go to Parliament,” he said. “I want to tell you that I am with you all the way. I will continue working with the people of Warren Park constituency.

“If I was coming from other parties, I would have turned my back from you, but because I sucked from a people’s party, I was nurtured by the Zanu-PF’s people oriented ideology. I have come to fulfil my promise.

“In Zanu-PF we say no one has lost the elections because Cde Mugabe is still the President and the party dominates both Parliament and Senate,” he said. Cde Ushewokunze lost the Warren Park seat to Mr Elias Mudzuri of MDC-T who garnered 10 956 votes against his 4 853.

The other candidates for the constituency were Ms Nyarai Mombeshora of MDC who received 1 119 votes, Mr Tafadzwa Matope of MKD who had 69 and independent candidate Mr Erington Nhanga who received 84 votes.
