Zanu-PF candidates who won primary elections at the weekend have expressed confidence that the ruling party will romp to victory in by-elections that will be held on June 10.The by-elections to be held in 14 constituencies were called following the recall of 21 MDC-T legislators from Parliament last month and the opposition party will fill the seven seats it gained on proportional representation.

Zanu-PF Highfield candidate Cde Psychology Maziwisa said he was honoured to represent the party.

“Highfield West is a particularly important constituency given the fact that President Mugabe, for all intents and purposes, lives in Highfield as well as the fact that our revolutionary party Zanu-PF was formed in Highfield in 1963,” he said. “So I am looking forward to working as hard as I can to make sure we reclaim this very historic seat.”

Zanu-PF candidate for Mbizo, Cde Vongaishe Mpereri said the revolutionary party must consolidate its dominance in the province by bagging the seat.

“We have a mammoth yet imperative task to ensure we bag the seat which was previously taken by MDC-T,” he said.

“People have confidence in the party and it has become clear that all other parties do not have the people at heart.”

Cde Esau Mupfumi said he would prioritise access to water and sanitation for Dangamvura-Chikanga constituency. “We have roads that are in very poor state,” he said. Dzivarasekwa candidate Cde Omega Hungwe said she would empower women to contribute to the economy.

“I will go as far as looking for resources to fund women projects so that they can sustain their lives,” she said.

Cde Tinashe Maduza said he would uplift the youths and create employment opportunities as well as take care of orphans and the elderly in Kambuzuma.
