The zanu-pf Youth League national executive yesterday vowed to block Vice President Joice Mujuru and her allies from attending the 6th National People’s congress, accusing them of plotting to oust President Mugabe.

The congress, which began with a Politburo meeting in Harare yesterday enters its second day with a Central Committee meeting today, ahead of its official opening by the party’s First Secretary and President tomorrow.

In a statement, deputy secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Kudzanai Chipanga, who is also the Makoni West National Assembly member, told journalists that VP Mujuru and her allies were not welcome at the Congress.

“Anyone who is directly linked to, or has participated in any activity, meeting or any form of unscrupulous gathering with the intention of unconstitutionally overthrowing the leadership of our revolutionary icon, the President and First Secretary of zanu-pf must peacefully excuse themselves from the 6th zanu-pf National People’s Congress,” he said.

VP Mujuru has been in the eye of a storm after growing allegations of treason and abuse of office were levelled against her while several party bigwigs have been implicated in her subversive plot to unseat President Mugabe.

Cde Chipanga said even those known to be aligned to the Mujuru camp should not dare attend Congress.

“Anyone who has been implicated in these dirty tricks and treasonous activities of undermining the authority of the President and First Secretary of zanu-pf, Cde R.G. Mugabe must excuse themselves from taking part in the 6th Zanu-PF National People’s Congress,” Cde Chipanga said.

He said the zanu-pf Youth League was bound by the party’s constitution to offer unwavering support and loyalty to President Mugabe.

“We are mandated by the party constitution, that the zanu-pf Youth League is loyal and will forever be loyal to its President, Cde R.G Mugabe,” he said.

Cde Chipanga said threats by VP Mujuru and her allies did not go well with goals highlighted in this year’s congress theme; ‘Accelerated Implementation of Zim-Asset’.

“The Youth League declares that all treacherous acts are a threat to the fundamentals of the revolutionary ideals of the party, its founding values and the values of the Constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe. These threats will not augur well with youth empowerment as well as the full implementation of Zim-Asset,” he said.

Congress began yesterday with the notable absence of VP Mujuru and Minister of State in the President’s Office Cde Didymus Mutasa and Labour and Social Services Minister Nicholas Goche who was admitted into a private hospital with hypertension after being implicated in the plot to assassinate President Mugabe.

Harare Provincial Affairs Minister Miriam Chikukwa saved her skin by sneaking through another entrance as she evaded youths at the main entrance who were denouncing her through song and dance.

Cde Chikukwa had come to take part in First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe’s tour of the congress venue.
