Silver Screen: Let the beat roll on MisRed

MisRed

With Tafadzwa Zimoyo
THE good times are set to roll, thanks to the decision by Delta Beverages and our national broadcaster to bring back the television programme, “Coke On The Beat”.

The programme was a hit among viewers and a favourite of many during the 1990s before it went off air.

It is hoped that this time around, the programme will be bigger and better since more interesting artistes have emerged.

While there were good presenters during the time, the new ones MisRed from ZiFM and musician Goodchild seem to be with it.

I believe the MTV Base presenters radio DJ Sizwe Dhlomo and popular bald Nomuzi Mabena could learn one or two things about how to do it the African way, not the American way.

Now the ball is the court of the artistes to make sure that they give us great videos.

Some international videos should be shown, but the main thrust of the programme should be to promote our local artistes whom we also want to see on other foreign channels, thanks to the support they would have gotten on ZTV.

The programme can go an extra mile by involving viewers by broadcasting live from public functions, say, the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) that is just around the corner.

People can request videos of their choice during the live broadcasts and then have them screened as their friends and relatives watch the programme from the comfort of their homes.

Meanwhile, the fun continues on DStv where new developments never stop happening as a stirring line-up of top comedy, drama and other content comes to viewers when M-Net City takes over from M-Net Series Zone as a brand new general entertainment channel. A high-impact channel aimed at adding to the variety of programme genres, M-Net City will be available to DStv Premium and DStv Compact viewers on channel 115.

Content lined up includes comedies like highly-rated US series Modern Family and Last Man Standing, talk shows and the debut of Chicago PD, a crime and drama series.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the channel would screen blockbuster films on Saturdays and Sundays, when viewers could also indulge in non-stop viewing of back-to-back episodes of various series that have been showcased in single slots between Mondays and Fridays.

The introduction of M-Net City is the result of continuous evaluation, adjustment and reshuffling of programme and channel offerings to meet ever-changing expectations and tastes.

“In 2014, M-Net introduced M-Net Edge and VUZU AMP, to the delight of DStv Premium viewers. Now we have created M-Net City, a new channel that will enhance the viewing experience not only of Premium viewers but also people in the Compact bouquet range, too,” said Ms Dziva.

The schedule for the channel will be arranged to provide recognisable genre slots: weekdays between 5pm and 7pm will feature talk shows, followed between 7pm and 7.30pm by family comedy time and then, between 8pm and 9pm, action and crime series will take over the screen.

On Saturdays and Sundays movies will be screened in early prime time, while from 7.30pm it will follow the successful example of M-Net Edge with weekend back-back continuous sessions. M-Net Series Zone transmission will end at midnight on April 5 and M-Net City will start broadcasting at 5pm on the following day. The current series offering on M-Net Series Zone will conclude before the channel becomes M-Net City.

Not to be ignored, last Sunday was the launch of Big Brother Mzansi and I think ‘Biggie’ should take a leaf from BBM.

The launch was spectacular and the housemates are on fire, thanks to this year’s edition theme “Double Trouble”. We looking forward to the action, drama and fun.

Don’t forget not to touch that remote.
