Gospel musician Abraham Matuka, who is well known in the gospel music circle for his single “Vhinire raJesu”, has donated clothing worth thousands of dollars to female inmates at Chikurubi Prison. This was the second time for him to display his largesse after the musician earlier this month donated some clothing to male inmates at Harare Central Prison.

Abraham, who recently released a six track DVD, said he was motivated to contribute to the prisoners well-being because he felt sympathy and felt pushed to make the gesture as a reminder to them that God has not abandoned them in their time of distress.

“I made the decision to make this positive contribution because I felt sympathy for them and the fact that these prisoners are also human beings who still need to be shown love as well. People have a tendency of neglecting some of inmates over the crimes they committed long ago thereby forgetting that we are all the same in the eyes of the Almighty and we all make mistakes in our lives,” he said.

Master of ceremony at the handover event chief prison officer Simon Kaondo hoped the donation would inspire others to follow suit.

“I would like to take this opportunity to encourage other well wishers out there to follow suit as we are all one community. These kind of donations help in the rehabilitation and integration of our prisoners both mentally and physically,” he said.

Abraham added that he is organizing the record of some tracks with the Chikurubi Female Choir and is still going on with his good works.

“I am going to Hwahwa Prison in the near future to carry out another donation as I have seen that many prisoners are hungry for the word of God.”

The donation ceremony was an event that saw the prisoners and prison officers dancing and cheering to Abraham’s music as he belted out some of his tracks and Reverend Masango from Greater Joy Ministries made a heart touching sermon that made some prisoners shed tears.
