Former NMB chief executive Mr James Mushore, who was appointed town clerk by Harare City Council before Government reversed his appointment, has vowed to remain at Town House and is still reporting for duty.

He is adamant he has work to do at the council head office. It is not clear if Mr Mushore will receive any salary from the local authority.

“I am not going to leave council. I am going to do the work I was appointed to do because that is what residents want me to do,” Mr Mushore told The Herald yesterday.

On whether he was certain council would pay him given the controversies surrounding his appointment, Mr Mushore said: “We have a responsibility to make sure that those below us get their salaries first before thinking of paying ourselves.”

He is yet to get an employment number because he did not complete the employment process.

Government reversed the appointment after noting that council had flouted procedures as outlined in the Urban Councils Act and the Local Government Board.

Council was supposed to submit three candidates to the Local Government Board for approval.

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Saviour Kasukuwere informed council Mr Mushore’s appointment was illegal but council proceeded to give him the job.

This led to the suspension of Mayor Councillor Bernard Manyenyeni.

Minister Kasukuwere is on record stating that Government was not against Mr Mushore’s appointment but wanted due process followed.

The MDC-T led council recently resolved to withdraw its decision to send Mr Mushore on forced leave without benefits.

They are reports the MDC-T leadership is fully behind Mr Mushore’s appointment.
