Musha Mukadzi Zimbabwe Armed Forces Foundation (MMZAFF) is set to establish a cancer care facility at Trauma Centre in Harare to cater for children and women.
The foundation’s national chairperson Mrs Mary Chiwenga said this yesterday during preparations for the knee amputation of nine-year-old cancer patient Shingirai Bushu.

The operation, to be conducted at Trauma Centre today, will cost US$15 000.

“We are on the verge of setting up a cancer care facility at Trauma Centre in two weeks’ time. We have acquired all the required machines which are already here at Trauma,” she said.

Trauma Centre and Hospital chairman and chief executive officer Dr Vivek Solanki said he had partnered with the foundation to establish the cancer care facility.

“We are working together to set up a cancer care facility that is to open soon. Musha Mukadzi Zimbabwe Armed Forces Foundation is funding the amputation for Shingirai who has cancer on his right upper knee,” he said.

Mrs Chiwenga told The Herald that the foundation was committed to helping all cancer patients.

“We started by helping members of the armed forces only, but we have now extended the help to all the people,” she said.

Shingirai’s father, Mr Desderio Bushu of Waterfalls, hailed the foundation for coming to his family’s rescue.

“I communicated with Mai Chiwenga asking for help after my child had developed cancer in March this year. She heard my problem and Musha Mukadzi is now paying for the amputation. I had no money since I am not formally employed,” he said.
