Award-winning musician Cynthia Mare launched her single, “Moto Ngaubvire”, to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence at Alliance Francaise on Tuesday.

Through a partnership with UKAid, British Council and Embassy she unveiled the inspirational song that encourages people (specifically women) to not only stand against abuse but to have courage to move on.

Mare said while she wrote the song at the start of this year she had to release it during the days of activism against gender-based violence to add her voice to the campaign.

“I wanted to make a difference in the lives of people. Statistics prove that many women are directly or indirectly affected by abuse, so I used my voice as an artiste to make that change.

“The song has managed to touch people as it is simple and straight to the point in denouncing violence and inspiring victims to rise above it,” she said.

The song was produced by Humphrey Domboka and is taken off her upcoming third album.

She performed it to a fully packed venue and also did songs “Handidi Nhamo”, “Natsa Kwawabva” and “Shinga” taken off the album.

“Ruva Rimwe”, her all-time classic, was also received well by the various organisations, friends and fans who came through to support her cause.

“This launch marks the beginning of my personal campaign for empowerment of girls in Zimbabwe. It is beyond the 16 days for me as I am following it up with more activities. I plan to do a video of the song ‘Moto Ngaubvire’ and just like Tuku’s ‘Tozeza Baba’, I want it to portray the true picture of abuse,” said Mare.

She said she also hoped the video would conscientise perpetrators to have a change in attitude towards it.

Besides the video, Mare also spoke of plans for a short film about the abuse of woman. She said she would also partner various companies and organisations to continue to raise awareness on the issue.
