A quartet swindled home-seekers of more than $80 000 after lying that they were selling stands on behalf of the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, a Harare Court heard last Friday.

Grace Penemene (28) and her accomplices, Aaron Muzaza (26), Ignatius Mugoni (29) and Audrey Ndofeni (27) allegedly misrepresented to Tatenda Sithole, Takunda Gombedza, Douglas Munjenga, Njabulo Nkomo, Douglas Makoni and Sikanyiso Dube that they were selling residential stands in the leafy suburbs of Pomona in Harare.

The four appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo, facing six counts of fraud.

They were remanded out of custody to October 21 on $100 bail with strict reporting conditions.

On April 2 last year, Penemene and her accomplices lied to Sithole, Gombedza, Manjenga, Nkomo, Makoni and Dube that Mukushi Housing Cooperative Society was selling 2000 square meter stands in Pomona on behalf of the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing and duped them.
