Organisers of the second edition of the Great Limpopo Cultural Fair say everything is now in place for the five-day annual event which roars into life on Thursday. The event which is hosted by Chiredzi Rural District Council in partnership with Centre for Cultural Developmental Initiatives – formally known as Gaza Trust will run under the theme “Culture as an Effective Tool in the Fight Against Poverty and Wildlife Crime”.

In an interview with The Herald, CRDC chief executive officer Isaac Matsilele yesterday said preparations for this annual event are at an advanced stage with a lot of activities lined up for this year’s event. “We are just making our final preparations for the event and now we are making the final touches to logistical issues with our partners.

“As you know that this is the second edition of the Great Limpopo Cultural Fair, it requires a significant level of preparedness as the event is growing bigger and better,” said Matsilele.
Director CCDI Herbet Pikela said they are expecting guests from Mozambique and South Africa.

“The event will be held in Chiredzi from September 3 to 6 2014. “We are expecting a number of foreign guests from our neighbours Mozambique and South Africa, traditional leadership, academics, government ministries and the media fraternity,” said Pikela.

The Great Limpopo Cultural Fair is a youth initiative that uses a culture-based approach in solving pertinent issues that include poverty, wildlife crime, irregular migration and illiteracy among others and we are very happy that everything is moving as planned.”

According to the tentative GLCF program, there would be a Language and Cultural Consultation Workshop in Chiredzi before people embark on a tour of the Buffalo range Airport, A2 Sugarcane Farms, the McDougall Museum in Triangle and also the Kambako Bush Craft Museum at Malilangwe Conservancy.

Touring will spread wings to the communities, Gonarezhou National Park, Gonakudzingwa Detention Camp and Sango Border Post. Finally the tour will take guests to Chief Sengwe’s area where a cultural groups will showcase the Shangani/Tsonga cultural dances. In the evening there will be the Southeast Lowveld business networking indaba that seeks to explore the existing opportunities that are unveiled by the Great Limpopo Trans-frontier Park and conservation areas.
