There are many sad stories of teens getting depressed and committing suicide. Like everyone else we get stressed by many different things in our lives. Social problems, family challenges, abuse, money problems, unhappy relationships and academic or sport failure.

But when you look at it, everyone goes through the same problems. So why should some people then get depressed more than others? The difference is how you yourself looks at life. I would like to share a story that you may not have come across before to explain what I am saying:

Once a fisherman was sitting near sea shore, under the shadow of a tree smoking his cigarette.

Suddenly a rich businessman passing by approached him and enquired as to why he was sitting under a tree smoking and not working.

The poor fisherman replied that he had caught enough for the day.

Hearing this, the rich man got angry and said, “Why don’t you catch more fishes instead of relaxing in the shade wasting your precious time? You could catch more fish, sell them and earn more money, and buy a bigger boat.”

The fishermen asked what he would do with a bigger boat. The businessman said, “You could go fishing in deep waters and catch even more fish and earn even more money.”

The fisherman again asked what he would do with the extra money. The businessman said, “You could buy many boats and employ many people to work for you and earn more money. You could become a rich businessman like me.”

The fisherman then asked what he would do as a businessman: The businessman said, “With enough money you could go on holiday, fly to resorts across the world and enjoy yourself lying on the beach.”

The fisherman asked the businessman, “What did you find me doing when you decided to disturb my peace?” The businessman had no answer.

What is the moral of the story? You don’t need to wait for tomorrow to be happy and enjoy your life.

You don’t even need to be richer or more powerful to enjoy your life. Just enjoy fully what you have right at the moment.

As some great person once said, “My riches consist not in the extent of my possessions, but in the fewness of my want”.

Till next time have fun, be creative and enjoy your life!
