The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS), which owns Bindura Prison Primary School, has created a leadership training course for its learners.

ZPCS also owns Gwakwe Primary School in Guruve.

ZPCS Officer Commanding Mashonaland Central Province Commissioner Charity Gezi said the skills will help the learners become effective leaders later in life.

The leadership and team building training targeted 45 prefects and was held at a seminar in Bindura covering topics like conflict resolution, problem-solving, teamwork, and collaboration.

Comm Gezi said, “I can attest to the importance of good leadership and the positive impact it can have on our society.

“As prefects, you have the unique opportunity to be role models to your peers and to set an example of what good leadership looks like.”

She added that the seminar also benefited older people in leadership positions.

The school head, Principal Correctional Officer Munyaradzi Komati, said good leadership is not about having power over others, but about using power for the good of others.

He urged the prefects to lead by example.
