Zimbabwe will tomorrow host the sixth edition of Technical Committee of Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference (TCAMCCO) that is expected to run from tomorrow to June 1 at the Harare International Conference Centre.

The conference is the brainchild of International Cooperative Alliance Africa, which was founded in London in 1895.

It serves to promote and strengthen viable cooperatives through capacity building and policy advocacy.

Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Sithembiso Nyoni told journalists on Thursday that the conference will run under the theme “Promotion of good health and well-being in Africa through cooperative”.

“The conference will be attended by 100 delegates who include registrars of cooperatives from the Africa continent. Some of the delegates are Alliance Africa president, regional directors, representatives from African Union, central cooperative unions and commissioners,” she said.

Minister Nyoni said she expects the global conference to attract foreign direct investment in the country especially in the health sector.

“I am excited because this conference will also give a platform for cooperatives to form businesses inter-linkages as ideas and success stories are shared.

“The conference will be beneficial to Zimbabwe National Cooperatives Federation (ZNCF) as it will strengthen local efforts and link with the cooperative movement worldwide. We expect local cooperatives to clinch trade deals with other cooperatives in Africa through interactions and this can attract foreign direct investment,” she said.

She said the main agenda of the meeting was to unravel issues surrounding health cooperatives under Sustainable Development Goal No. 3.

“This conference is meant to share experiences and stories to illustrate the success and challenges of health cooperatives in selected countries from the European, American and Asian Pacific region.
