YOUTHS in Mashonaland East province have come up with a housing project targeting young people, war veterans and civil servants in line with President Mnangagwa Vision 2030 to ensure that people have decent housing.

This comes as  the Government, which is targeting to construct 100 000 houses annually, has been availing land to private businesses with the financial wherewithal so as to ensure that stands are serviced, under a public private partnership. The youths in Mashonaland East have come up with a housing project, Diamond Park that is taking shape 40 km east of Harare with roads, and other facilities taking shape.

Diamond Park chief executive officer Mr Rodger Pote said the housing project is in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 to ensure everyone have access to decent accommodation.

“The project is meant to ensure low income earners, unemployed youths, civil servants, war veterans among others have access to decent accommodation,” said Mr Pote.

The project is being constructed on a 290-hectare piece of land 40km along Harare-Mutare road.

More than 1 300 people have so far benefited under phase 1 of the project, while phase 2 and 3 constitute 1 350 stands

Phase 1 constitutes of medium density while phase2 and 3 are low density areas. The project is being constructed under the remainder of Melfort Farm

“We believe in supporting the President’s Vision 2030. It is possible to achieve the vision if everyone is working towards the same direction,” said Cde Pote. A number of projects are currently underway in the country to improve the livelihoods of the people.

Mr Pote said the project that is expected to be completed by April next year, initially faced a number of challenges from some senior management of Ruwa Local Council and Goromonzi, some of whom were demanding kickbacks to certify plans.

More than 100 boreholes will be sunk under phase 1, which will have schools, a clinic and other social amenities in line with modern housing schemes.

Apart from the massive construction of several housing projects under the Second Republic, Zimbabwe has witnessed a boom in infrastructural developments such as the construction of major roads such as Beitbridge-Harare road which links the country with South Africa.

Dams are currently under construction countrywide, a New Parliament building in Mt Hampden has been completed while Power Projects in Hwange will ensure that the country will be energy sufficient with excess for export.
