Veteran actor Daniel Tapera, aka Kanyemba, has featured in a short film titled “Shame on Us” to be launched on March 25 at the Book Cafe.

The short film which is expected to hit the big screens soon also features another veteran actor, Agnes Triggy, who played the role of Gweshegweshe’s maid in “Gringo the Trouble Maker”.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, producer of the film Alfonce Manyara said they have decided to seek the services of Tapera who has been in the industry since 1996 so as to motivate the new cast.

“The film is a community-based initiative. We want to uplift the lives of people who live in Warren Park through acting so we decided to rope in the veteran actors Tapera and Agnes Triggy so that the new cast will learn from them,” he said.

He also hailed Tapera for his humility and support.

“It was not difficult to approach Mr Tapera. When we asked him to have a role in our film he just accepted and we felt really honoured. We need many people like him in our society,” he said.

He said the film tackles social issues mostly HIV/Aids and domestic violence.

“In ‘Shame on Us’, everyone is to blame for his or her actions, people are regretting what they have done, they have been ignorant on matters that concern life and death and the end result is not good at all to everyone,

“There is a young man, Farai, who gets married to his long time sweetheart who was born HIV positive but because he trusted his girlfriend and he knows he has been faithful to his sweetheart he didn’t go for an HIV test before getting married,

“He only found out after he wanted to travel abroad when he tested HIV positive, in frustration he kills his wife’s uncle (who is Tapera) blaming him of not telling him the truth,” he said.
