Veteran musician Machanic Manyeruke is set to be honoured in a concert dubbed “Manyeruke Celebrating 40 Years in Gospel Music” at the Harare International Conference Centre on November 23. The aim of the event is to celebrate and appreciate what Manyeruke has done in the music industry for the past 40 years.

One of the event organisers, William Mikaye, said: “The reason we came up with this thing is to celebrate the good work of Baba Manyeruke as he is also one of the pioneers of gospel music in this country. Many people prefer to appreciate great musicians when they die but we have decided to do it when he is still alive.”

There are various artistes who have been lined up to perform during the celebrations.
“We have invited quite a number of musicians to participate on the day. Some of them include rising star Matthias Mhere, ZimPraise, Mahendere Brothers, Mudiwa, Guspy Warrior, Bethen Pasinawako Ngolomi and Tembalami.

The 71-year-old musician could not hide his joy saying he was humbled by the gesture.
“I feel very humbled by what has been planned for me. I never thought there could be people who could plan such a big event and I want to thank God who made them to remember me.

“I was surprised when I got the call from William Mikaye informing me about this. I would like to thank everyone who is participating at this event. The rest I will say it on the big day,” he said.

The father of seven has over 20 albums to his name. His first album was called “Zakewu” which was a hit in 1984.
He is one of the best known gospel artistes to emerge from this country and he started his music career in the late 1950s at St Patrick’s Mission in Gweru.
