Happy weekend fashionistas and fashion bombs. Remember each day is a page in your fashion history so dress appropriately. I remember one fashion icon at a runway show saying: “People don’t change but they reveal who they are after wearing clothes.” So let us look at what you express of yourself now that June is here. So what if some people say that we do not really have a winter to speak of by world standards? For us the weather justifies coats, scarves, boots and winter colours.

Winter can bring forth so many beautiful colour combinations that always go unnoticed. Some of the colours for winter include charcoal, black, brown, dark navy, white, stone, grey, blue, yellow and green.

Scarves can do so many things such as adding colour to a look, keep you warm, or serve as an alternative to a necklace.

Basically, a scarf is the most versatile winter accessory around. You can treat it like a tie or like a necklace.

Just know that if you want to rock this winter, knot a silky skinny scarf around your neck to make a really cool statement.

Some choose to belt it. Thus a chunky scarf doesn’t have to make you look bulky but can slim your silhouette when you belt it.

You can bring drama to an all-black or any other plain ensemble with a colourful scarf.

Swing one end over your shoulder to achieve a striking effect. The scarf is so versatile that if you don’t want to wear it you can tie around your bag.

While we absolutely love any excuse to pull out our favourite boots and play around with endless winter outfit combinations, arguably the hardest part about winter style is pulling off a puffer or coat without looking like a bag lady.

The coat comes in all weights and lengths, and colours. Choose one that works for you figure.

By the way the idea of a matching dress with coat is perfect for curvy girls and becomes incredibly classy when you coordinate it with heels, bag and sunglasses.

Who said you can’t wear your trench coat with leather pants?

Leather pants always brighten up an outfit and try the inspiring look with sneakers, open hair and a beanie hat.

The outfit is warm enough for winters, comfortable enough to keep you happy and stylish enough to make you look even more beautiful.

One local fashion blogger Lillian Madyara said, depending on your skin tone, lifestyle, height and signature style, there are endless options when it comes to finding the ideal trench coat for your capsule wardrobe.

“A shorter trench for a more casual look, longer for a classic touch or formal outings, and the colours and prints available make shopping a hoot of a good time. A fan of the classic neutrals, navy, khaki and black top my list, but a beautiful burst of colour such as yellow, red or green would be a great choice to wear with quality neutrals,” she said.

Just like what you see in movies, the gift of having a khaki coat is that it can work with black or brown tones, colour or prints and always look sophisticated and purposeful.

Why not grab one for yourself?

Another trick is to try wearing your dress with an open coat, if you want to look more sexier but make sure the dress is appealing as this gives a really nice and flowy effect.

For men, according to fashion beans, the classic trench coat to have right now is double breasted with six to ten buttons depending on length.

“Although single breasted jackets are available and best reserved for petite men who may appear buried in too much excess fabric. Make sure to rock them without dull colours,” is the advice from those in the know.

Golden tips for the gents; a trench coat should be large enough to be worn over a suit jacket or heavy sweater; it should not be large enough to use as a parachute. You are not meant to be hiding and keeping yourself warm at the same time.

A good measure is to try on a coat and button it up fully — the shoulders should extend out past your natural shoulder so as to allow room for a suit jacket, and you want to be able to fit a full fist in the chest area while having full arm movement.

Next look at the sleeve length as they should be worn longer than a suit jacket’s sleeves, to about the pinch on your hand.

Be stylish hot this cold winter.
