Popular gospel diva Joyce Simeti never thought she would become an established fashion designer. The musician, who was encouraged to do designing by her parents, thought her involvement with arts would be limited to music but fashion is now part of her daily business.

“After I finished high school my parents compelled me to do a cutting and designing course of, which I was not interested in. I just did it as a way of respecting them,” she said.

“The passion for designing later developed in 2010 when we were encouraged at church not to rely on one business.

“I also met a Ghanaian friend who used to design my clothes that brought much attention to people. So orders became too much for her and she decided to teach me how to do it.”

She added: “Afte I realised how lucrative the business was, I then took the profession seriously up to now.”

The songbird said her diversity will not disturb her musical career as she is a principled person and encourages other artistes not rely on music only.

“I know how to balance my roles as a musician and as a designer because I realised that everything must be given its own time and it is working for me.

“I encourage my fellow colleagues in the industry not to sorely rely on music, because they can’t gain much profit because of piracy.”

The singer said she is promising a well-polished album which would be released before Easter time.

“To all my fans I am still in the music game and you should watch out for my upcoming album that is due for release before Easter, “she said.

The musician is doing well with her current album “Anogonesesa” that carries hit song “Ndakange Ndisipo”.

She is married to Stanley Simeti and is a mother of three, two boys and a girl.

Born in Mutoko, Simeti started taking her music career seriously in 2002 when she recorded her first album “Tose Takadanwa” with Ngavongwe Records.

From 2002 up to now she has seven albums to her name and some of them include, “Ndichamupa Mbiri” ,“NaMwari Zvinoita” that had the hit track “Kudza Baba naAmai” and “Haakusiye Haakurase”.

The designer follows the footsteps of her fellow gospel musicians like Fungisai Zvakavapano — Mashavave who is also an established designer and dressmaker.
