Two elders will share a calabash of water to celebrate love, peace and life. They will call their young man to witness and support the ritual. They will share the calabash with their followers and, together, they will sing and dance for the whole night.
Sungura musician Alick Macheso tonight joins Oliver Mtukudzi in celebrating the release of his latest album, “Mukombe Wemvura” at a show at Ice and Fire Pamuzinda.

Tocky Vibes, a young man doing well in dancehall music, will represent the young generation witnessing the elders’ ritual when he performs at the show. Hordes of music fans are expected at the celebratory show.

“Mukombe Wemvura” (which means calabash or gourd of water) was released recently and launched at the Harare International Conference Centre at a low-key event and tonight’s show is likely to be a big celebratory event.

In some African cultures, a calabash of water symbolises love and is given to visitors upon arrival at a homestead. It is a sign of hospitality and peace. For the thirsty, a calabash of water is precious.

So, when Tuku, Macheso and Tocky Vibes celebrate “Mukombe Wemvura” tonight they will show love for their fans. It will be a precious event for those thirsty for pleasure. They will also drink from the calabash.

Given the previous record crowds at shows where Tuku and Macheso share the stage, tonight’s show is likely to be memorable.

“Mukombe Wemvura” is already making waves on local airwaves and social gatherings. Tuku has also taken it to Botswana where he performed last week and tonight he brings the calabash home.

The show approximates a compensation for the low-key affair at the HICC where the album was launched. Tonight’s venue, line-up and entry fee all point to a mission of taking the album to the people.

Ice and Fire Pamuzinda has been one of the active outdoor entertainment venues in the capital for a long time since its days as Pamuzinda Highway X-Scape. With tonight’s ticket price of $5 each, the venue is likely to be packed.

The Tuku-Macheso combination has pulled record crowds and is one of the best stage collaborations in local showbiz. Their relationship has grown beyond the stage to personal and family affairs. They understand each other well. They love dancing and singing together every time they share the stage.

Macheso is happy to work with his friend once again.

“We are friends but he is my brother. We are always happy together. He has supported me in music and in personal life. This is a relationship that came a long way and we are celebrating a new baby in the family. The new album is our new baby and I will be there to congratulate my brother. We will drink from the calabash together,” said Macheso.

Tuku’s manager Sam Mataure said they will deliver the best as they continue taking the new album to the people.

Tocky Vibes, the man-of-the-moment in dancehall music, is likely to complement the duo well. He has been on stage with international stars and he has dazzled. He says he is humbled to be part of “Mukombe Wemvura Celebration Gig”.

“I am happy to share the stage with big names like mukoma Tuku and mukoma Macheso. It is a great honour indeed and I am humbled to take part in celebrating this new album. I have prepared well for the show and people should expect the best from Tocky,” said Tocky Vibes.

Organiser of the show Josh Hozheri said it would be a gig to honour big achievements.

“The number of his (Tuku’s) albums is equal to his age. That is not a joke. It means the man really works. We celebrate with hardworking people. We honour mudhara Tuku for his humility. I personally respect him very much. Come let’s celebrate with him,” said Hozheri.
