Sydney Mubaiwa in Zaka
People in Zaka and the police have been challenged to help in fighting gender-based violence, which retards growth. Addressing a Zaka Rural District Development Committee meeting at Jerera Growth Point recently, Masvingo provincial SMEs secretary general Mrs Sarah Munemo called on the police to establish more Victim Friendly Units around the district. She said the units would help victims of gender-based violence to get assistance.

“As we commemorate 16 days of Activism against Gender-based violence, let me take this opportunity to express how much we are worried about the increasing number of cases related to gender based violence,” said Mrs Munemo

“The surge in GBV cases mostly perpetrated on women and young girls is a cause for concern to the police and other stakeholders and we need to curb this problem urgently.”

Mrs Munemo said women in the province were lobbying Government to involve them in the national budgeting processes and other developmental projects.

“We are worried about the way we are being treated in business and at our work places, but we are glad the authorities have come to our aid,” she said.
