South African musician Ringo Madlingozi has promised a “thank you” package for his Zimbabwean fans when he performs in the country on November 29. The show is set for City Sports Centre and will feature local musicians Oliver Mtukudzi, Winky D and Jah Prayzah.
The gig is dubbed “Thank You Zimbabwe” and Ringo is expected to take time to narrate what he has achieved with Zimbabwe’s support.
Ringo’s manager, Daniel Mofulwane, told The Herald in an interview that the SA jazz star has a lot to thank Zimbabweans for.

“Zimbabweans have done a lot for Ringo. He has cherished all his shows in Zimbabwe and wishes he could perform for them more often.
“Zimbabwe is like our second home and we are happy to be given a chance to salute our fans for what they have done for us,” said Mofulwane.
Ringo made strides on the local music field through his collaboration with Oliver Mtukudzi on the song “Yinto Yam”.

The South African star was one of the few regional artistes that did not make it to Mtukudzi tribute concert held in Harare on September 27 to celebrate the Zimbabwean superstar’s 61st birthday.

The tribute concert was attended by Mtukudzi’s friends in the music fraternity and from South Africa came Hugh Masekela, Judith Sephuma, Steve Dyer and Berita Khumalo.

The Kenyan duo of Eric Wainaina and Suzanna Awiyo as well as Mozambican star Stewart Sukuma also featured.
Mofulwane said Ringo would make up for his absence from Mtukudzi’s tribute concert through the November 29 show.

“We attended Mtukudzi’s 60th birthday concert last year, but we could not make it to this year’s event because we had some shows that weekend. We heard the concert was good and we know we missed a lot.

“We will use the upcoming gig to deliver our celebratory message to Mtukudzi since he will also be performing. We are looking forward to an exciting tour in Zimbabwe and we promise the best on stage,” he said.

Organisers of the “Thank You Zimbabwe” gig said they had chosen Ringo for the show because of his appeal to mature fans since the gig seeks to cut across age groups.

“It is no secret that Ringo’s collaboration with Mtukudzi is one of the best regional combinations of our time. He is one artiste who has a heart for Zimbabwe and does not want to go for a year without performing here.

“He fits well in our programme that targets different age groups. Winky D is likely to attract a youthful crowd. Mtukudzi and Ringo will serve their mature fans. Jah Prayzah bridges the age gap as he appeals to the young and the mature,” said one of the show organisers.
