PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has described as sterling, efforts made by Johane Marange church, led by High Priest Mutumwa Noah Taguta, in promoting educational development through the construction of schools in communities.

In a speech read on his behalf by Nyanga South Member of Parliament, Cde Supa Mandiwanzira, during the official opening of St Noah 2 Primary School in Nyanga recently, President Mnangagwa said the construction of the school was clear testimony that the apostolic sect valued education’s role in the socio-economic development of the country.

“You have shown Manicaland and the country at large that you now value the importance of education and health,” President Mnangagwa said.

“I am impressed by your unity of purpose as a church. The story of this school explains the vision of the church in promoting development in the community through education.”

Cde Mandiwanzira, who is also the Information Communication Technology and Cyber Security Minister, said President Mnangagwa was pleased with indigenous churches that are building schools on their own.

“We were used to Europeans coming to build schools for us, build hospitals for us with the money they would have taken here and have those facilities named after them. We are witnessing history today. We have a school named after one of our own, Mutumwa Noah,” he said.

In his speech as MP of the area, Cde Mandiwanzira said the construction of schools by the church was a legacy that would benefit the community even long after the church and its leader are gone.

Cde Mandiwanzira said he would continue working with the church to ensure its dream for the establishment of a technical college and ultimately a university is achieved.

The school head, Mr Cuthbert Zari, said they were working on several developmental projects, adding that ICTs would be key in advancing the new curriculum.

“I would like to thank Minister Mandiwanzira for working closely with the school to ensure it is complete in a short period. His sterling efforts in making sure that our dream came to fruition is commendable.

“He played a critical role in facilitating the accessibility of cement, transport and earthmoving machinery among other things. I would also want to thank High Priest (Mutumwa) for his vision and blessing of the project,” he said.
