Pembi Bridge will transform Kanyemba: MP Cde Mugweni

Cletus Mushanawani  Mash Central Bureau Chief

MAZOWE North legislator Cde Campion Mugweni has hailed the new dispensation for facilitating the completion of Pembi Bridge in Mvurwi, saying the development will spur the growth of Kanyemba into a Special Economic Zone.

The bridge, which is located before Mvurwi along the Harare-Kanyemba Road, is set for commissioning soon.

“Construction work on the new bridge had dragged on for a long time, but the coming in of the new dispensation resulted in its completion as the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Joel Biggie Matiza, did a splendid job in pushing for its completion,” said Cde Mugweni.

“In the past, haulage trucks had difficulties in navigating their way and the bridge had become a black spot. I recently visited the bridge and almost shed tears of joy seeing the completed work, something we had longed for.

“This bridge will spur the development of Kanyemba as an ecotourism town as goods will be easily moved to the area. We expect bulky goods to be moved to Kanyemba and Pembi Bridge is the gateway to the area.”

Government has since moved in to step up the development of Kanyemba Border Post, as well as irrigation schemes in the adjoining communal area.

The Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing has come up with an integrated development plan that is already being circulated among key stakeholders on the development of Kanyemba on the basis of eco-tourism, as this will be sustainable and allow co-existence of people and wildlife.

The integrated plan will also see the development of a higher order resort town that caters for local and regional support facilities, as well as act as one of the major gateways into Central Africa.

The new town will have a truck stop and Vehicle Inspectorate Department with a weighbridge at the periphery to avoid traffic conflicts.

On other developmental projects in Mazowe and Mashonaland Central, Cde Mugweni said the country’s open for business policy was helping to attract investors across the country as inquiries were already being made to set up solar farms in Mazowe.
