Dendera prodigy Suluman Chimbetu says he is a big fan of Soul Jah Love, one of the top Zim dancehall artistes blazing up the airwaves. Suluman or simply Captain Sulu told Star FM’s “Friday Crossover” host Tich Mataz that he enjoys Soul Jah Love’s music. “I don’t know but I’m a big fan of Soul Jah Love. Anestaera yake ega (He’s got his own style),” Captain Sulu said.

Although Soul Jah Love is featured on one of the tracks on the new album “Gunship”, he was conspicuously absent at the launch held at Maestro Bar & Lounge along Enterprise Road.

When asked how he felt about Zim dancehall artistes, Captain Sulu called for unity among artistes and slammed rivalry among musicians in that genre.

He, however, said although Zim dancehall borrows a lot from Jamaicans, local artistes were supposed to copy only the good not the bad.

Asked about his experience with Dr Oliver Mtukudzi whom he also featured on another tracks titled “Idah Nhoro”, Captain Sulu was at a loss for words to describe Zimbabwe’s own superstar.

“Dr Mtukudzi is my mentor ever since I started music.

“When I see him he is more like my father Simon. Akumberi kwekumberi. He is more than a superstar and he has a huge personality,” Captain Sulu said.

He also said that he learnt a lot from Dr Tuku from his several collaborations with him including the latest “Idah Nhoro”.

While he has done a collaboration on “Kwedu” with Dr Tuku from his previous release, it is the song “Nyuchi” featuring Soul Jah Love that has added a new flavour to his playlist.

It was a pity Soul Jah Love couldn’t make it to the album launch otherwise it would have been a thriller to see the two on stage although Sulu says they will be working together more often on coming projects.

It seems to be a match made in heaven.
