winning Zanu-PF candidate for Buhera West Cde Soul Nzuma says President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visit to Murambinda boosted his and Zanu-PF’s chances of winning the constituency, which is home to the late MDC founding president, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai.

Cde Nzuma also said the imposition of candidates in the constituency by the MDC-Alliance also acted in his favour.

He said Cde Mnangagwa’s visit gave confidence to people of Buhera, which saw him winning the seat resoundingly.

Cde Nzuma beat MDC-Alliance’s Mr Jaison Andrew Matewu.

“President Mnangagwa’s visit to Buhera left me with a lot of blessings, as it boosted confidence among people from my constituency who voted for me resoundingly,” he said.

“He (Cde Mnangagwa) initiated a lot of projects, which kicked off soon after his visit and that alone helped in instilling confidence in Zanu-PF amongst the people of Buhera.

“The other thing that propelled me to victory in Buhera West is that MDC-Alliance imposed a candidate who was not known by a lot of people. The candidate that was fielded by MDC-Alliance is based in the United Kingdom and it was difficult for people to trust him to lead them for the next five years. He only emerged during the election period and people rejected  him.”

Cde Nzuma, who is a member of the Central Committee in Buhera, said he worked closely with people at the grassroots and managed to identify with the people of Buhera Central.

“I have been working closely with people from the grassroots. They regard me as one of their own and I am sure they never find it difficult to trust a cadre from their area,” he said.

Cde Nzuma said his first priority was to approach Government so that it would construct vocational training centres and a polytechnic college in Buhera.

He said Buhera was lagging behind in tertiary institutions compared to other districts.

“We want to appeal to the Government for the construction of a tertiary institution like a polytechnic. I have noted that Buhera does not have any tertiary institution like other areas.

“We want to improve it in that area and I am looking forward to bringing sustainable developmental projects that will uplift the livelihoods of our people,” he said.
