ALL is set for the inaugural “Girlfriends’ Getaway” to be held at Westgate SterKinekor this Thursday with lucky ladies set to walk away with prize money and beds among other prizes.

This is the first-ever such festival that celebrates the life and achievements of women who have excelled in their various fields, and according to the organisers, ladies do it.

The event will run under the theme, “The 80s” and guest are expected to dress up to the theme.

Westgate SterKinekor complex manager Dorren Chuma said the event was a way of celebrating mothers and women in general for their contribution in nursing their families, caregivers, lovers as well as hard workers.

“Women work hard throughout their lives and we said, why can’t we honour them in a special way that will always leave a mark and an impression. With it also being the festive season, this is also one way of ushering them into this period with something to show for their labour,” said Chuma.

Entertainment will be provided by some local female artistes, while a fashion show will also be part of the fes- tivities.

“As you know, women and fashion cannot be divorced from one another. This is also going to be a platform to showcase the hottest and trendiest fashion designs, especially it being that period when fashion really makes a big statement,” added Chuma.

Neesha Patel, the marketing officer of KDV who have sponsored the event with beds, concurred with Chuma, adding that the festival derived its theme from that of the “80s Girlfriends”.

“This is a proudly Zimbabwean show, with a big slant towards empowering women. We want women of all walks of life to converge at this event and celebrate their special and unique selves,’ she said.

Patel said it was part of their community and social responsibility.

“This is also part of a community responsibility by KDV Bedding since we will also work closely in assisting kids at Harare Children’s Home in the spirit of mothers who care about everyone’s child. We will bring them for a film screening where they will stand a chance to watch the five sequels to ‘The Hobbit’ as well as ‘The Penguins of Madagascar’.”
