The Zimbabwe International Film Festival is in full swing with filmmakers showcasing diverse productions. The festival was given an interesting twist by emerging filmmaker Violent Tafadzwa Senderai at an event hosted by the Zimbabwe-German Society at Harare Town House on Monday evening.
In case of music meets film, Senderai documents the musical journey of local artistes who set up on a cultural exchange programme in Munich, Germany.
The artistes are Prayersoul Mtangamira, Tariro neGitare, Fungai Nengare, Rutendo Machiridza, Tendai Madzviti and Munyaradzi Nyamarebvu. The group teams up with a Germany Band, Jamaram.

“I have always wanted to tell stories, particularly African stories. It was a great experience. And I loved the people that were engaged in it. People came together to support the arts cultural centres,” she said.

Senderai added that bridging film and music was not a mammoth task as she has a keen interest in the arts.

“It was a joy to bridge the two. Arts are meant to be bridged together so I jumped at the opportunity of telling a story through musical lyrics and visuals as well,” she said.

Meanwhile, the documentary is not fully complete as the team returned a few days ago from a three-month German tour.“The full story is yet to be told.

We returned last week and we have not completed it yet. What we showed are parts of snippets to expect in the documentary that will be complete in less than a month,” she said

Viewers can expect to get a preview of what happens when musicians tour. From their performances, collaborations, profiles and special moments overseas.

“It was a privilege to work with talented artistes who were great ambassadors of our country. Looking at it from an inter-cultural exchange view, I saw two cultures meeting and creating something beautiful,” she said.

The documentary will be made available at various festivals among other platforms.
