Art lovers are in for a treat this month as Gallery Delta holds an exhibition for young artists dubbed “Artists in the Stream V” that opened on Thursday and runs until early March.
The exhibition was officially opened by German ambassador to Zimbabwe Ulrich Klöcknern who appreciated the works.
“We are happy to have a partnership with local people and I am encouraging young artists to keep up the good work,” he said.

Gallery Delta assistant director, Georgina Maxim, said the exhibition is meant to promote upcoming artists.
“The exhibition gives the artists a chance to be recognised, to exhibit and to be part of the art fields.

“It’s also a form of education where they get to know and understand each other better and the gallery gets to know the artists who are in the country, those that have improved and those that are beginning to enter the field,” she said.

The Gallery witnessed a remarkable change in the quality of products made.
“This year we noted that the works were in good quality with much content worthy of viewing and collection saw artists as far from Masvingo, Kadoma, and Bulawayo coming on board.

“There are more graphics and drawings this time, maybe it’s because the art materials have become expensive and artists find the technique of drawings and graphics much manageable to their already shallow pockets,” she said.

There are various young artists that are displaying their works that include paintings, graphics and sculptors and some of the artists are George Chibwana, Option Nyahunzvi, Mavis Tauzeni, Evans Mutenga and Webster Mubayirenyi.

One of the graphic artists Evans Mutenga expressed joy for being given an opportunity of this nature.
“It is a great privilege for me to showcase my stuff and also to see other products that are made by others.

“Basically my work involves using a lot of colours and patterns and my drawing is inspired by nature.”
Last year about 40 young artists with a total of 65 works participated with more paintings than drawings, graphics and sculptures and this time there were 33 artists.

This exhibition is an annual event since the 90s and is held every beginning of the year and many artists look forward to it as they begin preparing for it from late November. The programme is sponsored by the Embassy of Germany.
